Declared in 2000, the Prespa Park was the first transboundary protected area in the Balkans. It is jointly managed by Albania, Greece and North Macedonia, which cooperate to protect the catchment area of the Prespa lakes.

The management structure brings together the Prespa Park Management Committee (PPMC), the Working Group on Sustainable Tourism (WGST) and the Working Group on Water Management (WGWM).

Key cooperating institutions include the NECCA (Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency), the Green Fund, OFYPEKA and the national authorities of the three countries.
